Acupuncture Sans Frontiers

Published by AcupunctureNetwork under Learn

A group of practitioners from around the world have recently joined together to form an exciting new organisation Acupuncture Sans Frontiers.

In a recent interview, Sammy Reid, an acupuncturist from the Gateway Clinic in London talks about her experiences in Sri Lanka after the 2004 Tsunami.

“We had a massive challenge treating huge numbers of patients as a few hundred were already queuing when we arrived at our clinics in the morning. One day I made the determination to see everyone in the clinic so no one went away without having some sort of treatment. This meant I’d have to see well over fifty patients between 10AM and 6PM with an hour or so off for lunch. My experience working at the Gateway clinic over the years primed me for the job. We could have done a mass swoop on the crowd using auricular points helping people to relax if nothing in the least but I found using a Toyohari procedure combined with auricular points very effective and a fast way of treating the masses”.

”The experience of treating cross culturally is highly interesting and informative, really sharpens one’s senses because of the different perceptions of health and illness individuals have”.
